ReBox is a community cardboard recycling system designed to address the increasing
amount of packaging waste driven by the growth of e-commerce. It combines smart
recycling equipment, a companion mobile app, and locally based incentives to
encourage residents to make recycling a simple and rewarding part of daily life. By
involving both residents and recyclers, ReBox fosters stronger community
engagement, raises environmental awareness, and supports the development of a more
sustainable urban lifestyle.
In the ReBox project, I realized technology must closely align with community needs.
While smart devices and incentives boost engagement, challenges remain due to
cultural differences, resident habits, and recycler workflows. Next, I will deepen field
research and maintain dialogue with communities and recyclers to optimize
device placement, incentives, and app flow, ensuring effective implementation and
continuous improvement across diverse communities.
